Specialist Education Provision for children under 16 in the West of England

When I started to look at local specialist schools my local authority were very helpful but I soon realised that there was also many suitable schools in neighbouring local authorities which they were not able to provide information on.  I soon found this was a similar struggle for other parents.

So I have pulled together the information I have on schools and resource bases for children with disabilities and additional educational needs in the West of England,so covering Bath and North East Somerset (BANES), Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.  I have also added a few on the outskirts in Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire but these are just some of the schools available in those local authority areas.

The majority of the schools listed will require an Education Health and Care Plan or statement of special educational need for your child to attend. The list also includes private / independent schools.

Please do let me know if information here is incorrect (I have not had the time to contact all the schools) or a school is missing and I will do my best to keep it updated. Also please share with anyone or groups that you think may find it useful.

I have split the schools up alphabetically and by local authority area and provided the following information for each:

Name of the school – with a link to the school website (age of pupils)

  1. There is an asd resource base in blackhorse primary in emersons green. Also hanham woods secondary school as an asd resource base.

  2. My son attends Calder House in Wiltshire. I didn’t see it on there, but may have missed it. Dyslexia, Dyscalculia and SLD. Thanks for sharing by the way!

  3. You could add a link to the section 41 list of schools…

And a comment that there are often schools that do or don’t do what they say on the tin so always important to do a lot of research by asking local or national asd or EHCP groups and so on…

Thank you for taking the time to do this…
